Classic Car show returning to Tottenham

The 24th Annual Tottenham Classic Car & Truck Show returns to the Tottenham Conservation Area on Sunday, July 9. The Tottenham Car Show dates back to 1994 when a number of historic vehicles – from the Ford Model A to the big finned convertible cruisers of the ‘50s, to radical rods – rolled into the Tottenham Conservation Area.

Heavy rains cause flooding, road closures

The heavy rain experienced in the area recently resulted in residential flooding and road closures in New Tecumseth. The amount of rainfall is unprecedented. On Friday, several roads reported very high water levels and many were closed.

Rain doesn’t dampen the mood at Tottenham Bluegrass

The 34th Annual Tottenham Bluegrass Festival took place over the June 16-18 weekend in the beautiful natural amphitheater of the Conservation Area. Despite the rain (and it fell in buckets) the music played on, with bands and individual musicians moving under the covered pavilion, and spectators following with their lawn chairs.

Honda makes $4 million donation to Stevenson foundation campaign

The Honda Canada Foundation announced a significant $4 million charitable donation to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation. The commitment includes $1 million to purchase life-saving medical equipment. The remaining funds will support the complete redevelopment and revitalization of the community hospital, which is local to the Honda of Canada Mfg. facilities and its more than 4,000 Honda associates.

Relay for Life raises $53,000 in Alliston

On Friday, June 9, cancer survivors, those currently battling the disease and friends and families came together at the PPG/Alliston Fairgrounds for the annual Relay For Life fundraiser. Benefitting the Barrie Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society (that supports New Tecumseth and its residents), the event raised $53,000 through pledges and donations.

Official opening and naming for Ruthven Park

The Town of New Tecumseth, together with HBNG Holborn Group, officially opened and named Ruthven Park May 29. Ruthven Park, located at 233 Church St. N. is an innovative park, designed by Landscape Planning, Landscape Architects and Town of New Tecumseth staff and developed by HBNG Holborn Group to fulfill the Town's recreation needs.

TNT Express host full day of gridiron action

The TNT Express hosted full day of football for the second Sunday in a row at Mel Mitchell Athletic Field in Beeton on May 28. All four Express teams hosted games on a day which turned out to be more favourable weather than the previous week.

Local businessmen host golf tourney in support of Jaida’s Challenge

On June 10, three local businessmen, Dr. Jim Mackle, Roger Martin and Gary Witiuk, will host their 7th Annual, “Three Stooges Golf Tournament” at the Silver Brooke Golf Club. For the third year running all proceeds from the tournament will be donated to Jaida’s Challenge, which for the past six years has been helping children with special needs in South Simcoe. Jaida’s Challenge is currently running a campaign to help families who have a child in need of a wheelchair accessible van.
