Foot patrols overnight

May 28, 2015   ·   0 Comments

On May 20th, between 1–3 a.m. several officers from the Nottawasaga OPP were on foot patrol in Alliston and Beeton. In doing so, they were also checking personal motor vehicles for security. Approximately 70 vehicles were checked and 18 were found to be unlocked (25 per cent of the vehicles were unlocked). On one occasion, a car’s window was rolled down and a woman’s purse with valuable contents was left sitting on the seat. Officers left “Lock it or Lose” inspection sheets in the windshield with tips and notification that officers were out inspecting.
The goal of the “Lock it or Lose it” program is to remind drivers to always:
• Roll up their vehicle’s windows;
• Keep valuable out of sight;
• Lock their doors; and
• Pocket their keys
Officers from the Nottawasaga OPP will be conducting “Lock it or Lose it” inspections randomly throughout our communities as part of the OPP’s vision of creating a ‘Safer Ontario’ and commitment to public safety.
The key to protecting you vehicle and belongings is in your hands. Keep yourself from becoming an easy target by properly securing your vehicle. Remember: Lock It or Lose it! More details about crime-proofing may be found on-line at:
