Nottawasaga OPP would like to remind the public of the appropriate use of the 9-1-1 system.
In a 48 hour period, Nottawasaga Detachment officers were required to respond to seventeen 911 calls for service, one of which was an emergency.
The remainder of these calls were: children playing with a parents phone; businesses misdialling a number; testing a phone; careless use of a phone.
Since August 1st 2015, Nottawasaga Detachment Officers have responded to eighty one 911 calls. Each 911 pocket dial call requires the Communications Centre to follow-up with other agencies to identify the location and owner of the phone.
Each pocket dial call requires a police response at a minimum, pulling resources away from other priority duties and delaying response times for legitimate calls for service from the public.
Public requiring assistance of Police in non-emergency situations are reminded to utilize the toll-free 1-888-310-1122.
