Thief Steals iPad from Charity Silent Auction

August 27, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Dear editor:
This past Sunday (Aug. 23), we held a fundraiser silent auction at the Help The Kids Play golf tournament I coordinated at Woodington Lakes Golf Club in Tottenham. The tournament raised funds for the Help The Kids Play cause supporting kids in the area who need financial assistance to play sports while the silent auction raised money for our son Keanan’s fund at Sick Kids Hospital.
My wife Cheryl and I worked very hard to collect items for the silent auction and we also received very generous prize donations including an iPad, signed hockey jerseys and much more. All together, we raised about $3200 for Sick Kids Hospital.
Unfortunately, someone stole the iPad from our table between the time we set up the table and when our golfer group finished the round – a span of about one hour when facility staff were setting up the room for dinner. We figured someone was obviously watching and snuck in the room to take the iPad and the bid sheet we laid out with it. They obviously knew what they were doing because to take the bid sheet with the iPad, the thief wanted to make it appear the item was never there.
This upset us a great deal because we had people who knew that the iPad was going to be available and were willing to bid $500 for it. That $500 is now gone and essentially taken away from a donation to Sick Kids Hospital. It was very upsetting that some person would steal from a charity auction, especially for Sick Kids. The donor of the iPad was at our event as well and he was very upset over this too.
I’ve seen on the news before about how thieves steal from change jars. We’re hoping to)catch the person that’s done this.
Do you know anyone with a new iPad? Please send any tips that may help to recover this device to wendy@simcoeyorkprinting.com
If you have the iPad, it can be dropped off discretely and without repercussion to The Times office at 34 Main Street West, Beeton, Monday to Friday during regular business hours. No questions asked.
Kevin & Cheryl Boston,
New Tecumseth
