The Tottenham Steam have now moved into first place in the Central Division standings of the Greater Metro Hockey League with a 5-0 shutout win over the Bradford Bulls Saturday (Jan. 23) night at the Tottenham Community Centre area.
The Steam were trailing the Alliston Coyotes for most of the season but as the schedule started playing out the Tottenham squad finally caught up and took over when the two points from Saturday’s game put them over the top.
Saturday’s game had the Steam open the scoring with a goal from Cale Markham.
Brandon Yorke followed up with a second Steam goal late in the frame.
The Bulls were playing a good game but were stopped by a solid effort by the Tottenham goalie and strong defensive posturing by the Tottenham team.
The second period saw the Steam widen the gap with two more goals from Matt Fischer and Dylan Wallace that put all the pressure on the Bulls to get back in the game with one period remaining.
The only third period goal came when Graham Pickard scored just 42 seconds into the last frame. From there the Steam held on to shut down the Bradford attack and the game ended 5-0.
The Steam will be back on home ice this Saturday, Jan. 30, when they will host the Bracebridge Blues.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
