BTBIA hosts its AGM

The Beeton-Tottenham Business Improvement Association (BTBIA) held its Annual General Meeting at the D.A. Jones branch of the New Tecumseth Public Library Jan. 20.
The meeting was attended by the board of directors, interested levy holders, and coordinator, Susan Iacoucci.
The current board of directors includes president, Bo Niederhuber; treasurer, John Harrett; board members Johanne Leduc, Sabina Morell, Monica Temmler, Jason Bowers and town liaisons Richard Norcross (Beeton) and Chris Ross (Tottenham).
At the meeting, BTBIA members discussed the events of 2015, including the Beeton Honey & Garden Festival, Great Big Beeton Bee Contest (third annual), Tottenham Artisan Market (first annual), Shape of Sound art contest (Tottenham) Frightfully Fun Family event (Tottenham/Beeton), Santa Claus Parades (Tottenham/Beeton) and Festival of Lights (Tottenham/Beeton).
The board also went over all of the municipal initiatives they took part in, including flower planters in both communities, iron works (garbage cans, recycling bins, benches) in both communities, bicycle racks, and community group signs. The BTBIA is also responsible for signage hanging from lamp standards, which are changed frequently throughout the year, in conjunction with the season, or an upcoming event.
In 2016, the BTBIA will be installing tree grates around the trees on Main Street, Beeton, and will promote their Historic Walking Tour, launched last year. It will also be making improvements to the existing website.
The BTBIA began as a project of the Town of New Tecumseth, with a paid town employee, and has continued to grow since the separation. The organization is funded through a separate tax levy, paid by merchants in the downtown cores of Beeton and Tottenham, as collected by the Town.
The BIA’s mantra is to beautify, promote and maintain the downtown shopping districts of Beeton and Tottenham. It functions with one paid coordinator, and a volunteer board of directors.
