With the completion of reconstruction of a portion of the 25th Sideroad between Highway 27 and the 11th Concession of Essa Township, the speed limit for the road will be reduced to 60 kilometres per hour between the 10th Concession and Highway 27.
The section of road reopened after being closed for several months last week.
The speed limit has been 80 kilometres per hour on that section of road but changes made during the project do not support that level of speed.
Dan Perreault, township Manager of Public Works said that “it was identified that the vertical curve and sag design east of the 11th line could not meet the criteria for the 80 km/hour speed zone. It is anticipated that a similar design issue will arise if and when the 25th Sideroad is reconstructed west of the 11th Line.”
The speed limit on the 25th sideroad between the 8th and 10th Concession is also now 60 km/hour.
Council suggested that the the 25th sideroad between Country Road 56 and the 8th Line also be reduced to 60 kilometres.
“I hear as many complaints about speeding on that stretch of road as any,” said mayor Terry Dowdall.
The road sees upwards of 8,000 cars per day as many township residents have used it as an alternative route, to Highway 90, to Barrie and Highway 400.
A bylaw on the speed reduction will come to a future meeting of council.
