The Town of New Tecumseth has been found not guilty following a Ministry of Labour charge following a June 20, 2014 accident in which Public Works employees were injured and Geoff Gaston was fatally injured while performing line painting on Victoria Street in Alliston.
The Justice of the Peace delivered his decision today at the Barrie Provincial Offences Court following a trial that was held at the beginning of April. There is a 30-day appeal period.
“We are pleased that this MOL trial is now completed and that the charge has been dismissed against the municipality. This charge would not have changed the tragedy that occurred,” said New Tecumseth’s Interim CAO Blaine Parkin.
“Our thoughts are with our late public works and firefighter team member, Geoff Gaston’s family, friends and Town of New Tecumseth employees,” Parkin said. “The safety of all of our employees is of the utmost importance and the Town’s policies and procedures continue to exceed the requirements of the Ministry’s Health and Safety Act.”
