Holy Family Catholic Elementary School celebrated its 25th anniversary May 5, with a school-wide celebration that carried over through Saturday, May 6, into a community celebration.
On May 5, during an assembly in the gymnasium, a time capsuled was opened, and the contents shared with students.
Contents included a letter from the original principal, Len Godin, wishing the students of the future (today) success in their studies, and outlining the steps required to get the Holy Family school building open.
The opening of the time capsule was followed by a reading of prayer by Father Bennett. Then, children shared letters their written by their parents, original students, from 25 years ago. A student-led Power Point presentation was shown, outlining the progress the school has made over the last two and a half decades – from breaking ground at the site until present today – followed by new items being placed in the time capsule, for future students to find on the occasion of the school’s 50th anniversary.
Every student and staff member was given a commemorative water bottle, in keeping with the school’s new drinking water policy, by members of the Catholic School Council, and the service ended with the unveiling of the 25th Anniversary Banner.
On May 6, the celebration continued, and included a mass, speeches, and a musical performance by students.
White doves were also released and images for a future slide show presentation were captured for future students.
Past and present students and staff, along with their families and local dignitaries were in attendance.
“This was a truly blessed event that brought our past and present Catholic Community together as we celebrated 25 years of Catholic Education at Holy Family School,” said Principal Samson.
