The Town of New Tecumseth, together with HBNG Holborn Group, officially opened and named Ruthven Park May 29.
Ruthven Park, located at 233 Church St. N. is an innovative park, designed by Landscape Planning, Landscape Architects and Town of New Tecumseth staff and developed by HBNG Holborn Group to fulfill the Town’s recreation needs.
The park boasts a wide variety of features including playground structures, a junior level baseball field and accessible walking paths.
“Ruthven Park raises the benchmark on quality outdoor recreation and green space development and encourages healthy, active living for New Tecumseth’s residents,” said New Tecumseth Mayor Rick Milne.
The park is named in honour of William H. C. Ruthven, a great supporter of youth in sport during his lifetime, who donated his own time and resources to promote the game of baseball in the community. With the addition of the Rotary Splash Zone at Riverdale Park in 2015, the original baseball diamond named in his honour was decommissioned and council kept Ruthven’s name alive by officially naming this facility, including the Ball Diamond within, “Ruthven Park.”
The playground structures are named “Liam’s Playground” in honour of Liam Medeiros, a young child who lived in the area neighbourhood and sadly passed away in 2015.
