Express Junior Varsity team heading to championship

The TNT Express Junior Varsity team is heading the OPFL championship after winning their semi-final over the Niagara Spears on July 30, at Mel Mitchell Athletic Field in Beeton. The Express started off strong and kept it up for the entire game to win 36-0.

The TNT Express Junior Varsity team will be heading to the Ontario Provincial Football League regional rep championship after dispatching the Niagara Spears in their semi-final playoff game at Mel Mitchell Field in Beeton on Sunday, July 30.
The Express started out strong in Sunday’s game going ahead 21-0 in the early going on touchdowns from Justin Fawcett for two, and a third TD from Marshall Moore.
Moore got his second of the game in the second quarter after taking a hand-off and making a wild 50 yard sprint down the sidelines to score.
Tyler Bollinger kicked through the uprights for the extra point.
Late in the half the Express had to kick to get out of their end zone to end the quarter.
Early in the second half, Nathan Monserrate intercepted a Niagara pass attempt for the turn around. The Express were stuck in their own end and had to kick to get out of the zone.
The Niagara team put up a good effort to get on the scoreboard but a strong Express defence didn’t allow them many chances.
The Express scored in the fourth quarter on a TD from Liam Hunter to end the game 36-0.
The Express JV team finished in the number one spot in the division for the regular season with a 7-1 record.
The scored 246 points and allowed only 70 against.
The final championship game should be one of the best and most exciting games this season as the Express will be up against the equally dynamic Claington Knights.
The Knights finished the regular season in second place – also with a 7-1 record.
The championship game was played Aug. 2 at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines (results unavailable at press time).
