Alliston Hornets opener nets first win

The Alliston Hornets opened the 2017 / 18 season with a 9-5 win over the Huntsville Otters on Sept. 15 at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre. After playing to a 1-1 tie in the first period the Hornets opened it up scoring four goals before the second period was half over.

The Alliston Junior C Hornets are back on the ice for the 2017/18.
Things got under way Friday (Sept. 15) night when the Alliston squad hosted the Huntsville Otters at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
The teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first period with Alliston’s Ben Beausaert scoring the opening Hornets goal for the year.
Returning for the second frame the Hornets blew the game wide open scoring four goals before the period was half over.
Alliston second period goals came from Brandon Washer for two including one on a power play just 58 seconds in, Cole Gilligan, and a pair from Caden Maher.
Entering the final frame with a three goal lead, the Hornets kept up the pressure.
Huntsville scored early in the period.
Beausaert got his second of the game at the 3:45 mark, followed by singles from Dawson Foerster and Ryan Sallows.
The final was 9-5 and the Hornets recorded their first win of the season.
The Horents played again the following night (Sat., Sept. 16) travelling up to Orillia to take on the Terriers.
They advanced their record to 2-0 with an 11-1 win over Orillia.
Veteran Ryan Young is captain of the team this year with Mitch Livingston, Ryan Sallows and Matt Taylor slotting in as assistant captains.
There are several new names on in the lineup this year including two new goalies.
Brendan Macham previously played in goal for the Picton Pirates. Andrew North played last season with the Orillia Terriers.
There are nine new players on the team coming from various other teams from around the region.
There are eight teams in the Carruthers Division of the OJHL this season – all teams returning from last year.
The league lineup includes Alliston, Stayner, Midland, Schomberg, Caledon, Orillia, Penetang, and Huntsville.
The Alliston team will be in Schomberg on Thursday, Sept. 21, to take on the Cougars.
They return to home ice the following night, Friday, Sept. 22, when they will host the Schomberg Cougars.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
