The Tottenham Steam won their fourth game of the season when they hosted the North York Renegades on Saturday (Sept. 30) night at the Tottenham Community Centre arena.
North York came to Saturday's game with a 4-3 record and both teams were trying to get the two points to move up in the standings.
At the end of the first frame the game was tied at one.
Tottenham's goal came from Anthony Podder just 2:35 into the game on an assist from Carson Latimer.
The Renegades score at the 14:59 mark to tie it up.
The only second period goal came from Podder, his second of the night to make it a 2-1 game.
Both teams had a strong defensive strategy keeping shots on goal and opportunities tight for the period.
Returning for the final 20 minutes, there was no scoring for the first 16 minutes with Viacheslav Chegrintcev finally hitting the back of the North York net with four minutes left on the clock.
North York responded with a single 47 seconds later to make it a 3-2 game with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
Tottenham's Bodgan Shleev got some insurance for the Steam when he scored with 2:05 left and the Steam skated away with a 4-2 win for the night.
Tottenham goalie Sam Procopio was named the number one star of the game after making 36 saves on 38 shots on net for the night.
Still early in the season the Steam are in fifth place in the 12 team South Division of the GMHL.
St. George is currently in the lead after going undefeated in six games.
The Bradford Bulls are in second place followed by Kingsville.
The Steam will be back on home ice this coming Saturday, Oct. 7, when they will again face North York.
The puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
