On Friday, October 13, CONTACT Community Services’ community thrift store, The Clothes Line, welcomed local members of the public to a ceremony and ribbon cutting to mark the completion of the store’s renovations.

MPP Jim Wilson, Mayor Rick Milne and Town of New Tecumseth Councillors Michael Beattie, JJ Paul Whiteside, and Fran Sainsbury, were on hand to check out the renovations and thank CONTACT for the important work it’s doing in the community.

The Clothes Line sells gently used clothing and housewares, while providing volunteer opportunities for people in the community, with proceeds supporting CONTACT’s critical services.

The renovations included a face lift for the floors, walls and ceilings, a new kitchen and updated office space.

“The rejuvenated main store area creates a welcoming environment for everyone who steps through our doors,” Nicole Petrocco, CONTACT’s Fundraising and Communication Coordinator, told The Times. “The revitalized office and kitchen has created spaces where staff and volunteers can effectively work, and sort through the generous community donations the store receives.”

MPP Wilson presented a plaque to CONTACT Community Services’ Board chair, Gloria Lynn, on behalf of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

A plaque was also presented to Jackie Curd, manager of The Clothes Line, from the Town of New Tecumseth, to commemorate 38 years of supporting the community.

“The Clothes Line is grateful for the Ontario Trillium Grant, our landlord, Mirlin Sherifi Inc., H.F. Smith Home Hardware and our dedicated volunteers for pitching in and making the renovation possible,” said Petrocco. “All members of the community are invited to check out the new store and to participate in our annual ‘Coats 4 Kids Program’, where new and gently used coats are distributed to over 100 families in need.”
