Totten“HUG” helps residents stay positive

With so much drama and negativity going on, don’t you just need a hug?

That’s what organizers from the Tottenham and New Tecumseth Community Group – a group founded on Facebook as a forum for residents to gather information, share ideas and sometimes rant – thought too.

Totten“HUG” is the brainchild of Rob Farah, a member of the Facebook page group, and 22 year resident of Tottenham.

“There’s been a lot of negativity going on in our community,” Farah told The Times. “Between the truck crashing into our storefronts, the water issues, and the negative comments being posted online, I felt we should all just get together and hug it out.”

Farah said that he wanted people to get away from their computer screens and meet with their neighbours face-to-face.

“Let’s turn it all around,” Farah said of the negative feelings that are easily created when we don’t have to face each other.

This year (2018) Totten“HUG” will take place this Saturday, January 27 at 1 p.m. at the Tottenham Legion.

Hosted by Alan Lacey, Rob Farah and Councillor Chris Ross for the Tottenham and New Tecumseth Community Group, Totten“HUG” is a chance for all the great people of Tottenham and surrounding areas to meet and greet everyone.

“Let’s get out from behind all the social media and actually meet face to face. While we are all together lets have the biggest group hug in the history of Tottenham. I’m sure we all need it at this time. This will be the third annual Totten’HUG’,” said Lacey. “We have grown every year and I’m hoping to double last year’s (2017) 180 huggers. Let’s welcome all the new people that have recently moved to town.

“The Tottenham Steam will be there to greet and Hug as well as The Release to entertain you. I believe our Mayor Rick Milne and Councillor Chris Ross plus many more Councillors will be there. I am hoping to have a few draws for prizes as well as hot refreshments. The Legion will be open for anyone that wants to warm up or use the facilities. We are asking that you bring a donation to the Food Bank again this year. They are in need of canned meat if you’re curious. Hope to see you all that day and if not please give a HUG to someone that day.”

If you would like to help out on Totten“HUG” day, please message Rob Farah through Facebook.
