This Run's for You, a local volunteer based organization, will once again host its annual New Tecumseth Memorial Half Marathon and 5 kilometre Run/Walk event on April 29.
The half marathon will begin in Tottenham and the 5km event will start in Alliston, with both groups of runners celebrating at the same finish line at PPG Park, Alliston.
This year, proceeds from the event will be donated to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) to help with the current $30 million redevelopment campaign.
The goal of This Run's For You (TRFY) is to encourage physical activity within the area, while bringing the community together as a whole.
“We are also trying to help increase tourism to the area by hosting this incredible event,” said Kara Harris, founder and run director of TRFY.
Short-named the “New Tecumseth Memorial”, Harris also says she hopes the run will help to put Tottenham and Alliston area on the map as a destination for runners and walkers who often plan the events they attend months in advance.
But Harris says she knows that charity begins at home.
“Giving back to Stevenson Memorial Hospital is a real passion for all involved in the organization of the event as we clearly understand the importance of having our own community hospital,” said Harris. “The New Tecumseth Memorial is an event for the whole community. Whether you are a competitive athlete or a beginner, the event has many distance and difficulty options.”
A family friendly event where children, strollers and dogs on leash are all welcome, The Memorial will also have a “Vendor Village” – where local supporters from the community can come out and have some fun all while cheering on and celebrating the participants as they cross the finish line.
The New Tecumseth Memorial is organized by a board of 10 committee directors, who together have raised a total of $22,000 for local charities and families in need over the past four years.
“We are looking forward to making the New Tecumseth Memorial an exclusive annual event,” said Harris. “This run has many sponsorship opportunities available to local corporations, businesses, organizations and groups.”
