The TNT Express hosted a day of football at Mel Mitchell Athletic Field on Sunday, June 14.

The Peewees started the day with a 9:00 a.m. kick off against the Etobicoke Eagles.

Etobicoke got off to a strong start leading 25-8 in the first quarter and putting the pressure on the Express to get back into the game.

TNT’s Dillan Cook scored late in the quarter followed by a two-point convert from Jacob Monserrate to put the Express on the scoreboard.

The second half saw the Express get even closer when Tristan Monserrate took the ball through the middle score and make it a 25-14 game.

The Express set things up for a TD when Chris Cormier had a good run to drop the ball at the ten yard line. TNT scored on the next play when Keenan Bates crashed the line for a TD.

The game ended with a long Etobicoke run and a final TD to finish with a 31-20 over TNT.

The Express Peewees will be back in action on home field on Sunday, July 1, with an 11:00 a.m. start.

The Express Bantams hosted the Orangeville Outlaws in their weekend game with the most exciting finish of the day.

TNT was first on the scoreboard when Hunter Thom crossed the goal line in the first quarter.

With a good second quarter effort the Express found themselves in good field position on a solid run by Gabriel Borrelli, but they couldn’t capitalize and had to give up the ball.

The Outlaws tied the game in the third quarter with a single TD and no convert.

The Orangeville squad moved into the lead with another touchdown and a two point convert.

With a good effort late in the quarter the Express tied the game at 14 when quarterback Jake Barker called his own number and took the ball across the goal. That was followed up with a two-point convert by Sandro Bonsi that tied the game.

Both squads put in a huge effort in the final three minutes in an effort to score but when the clock hit zero the game was tied and forced into overtime to decide the winner.

The Express had to settle for a 26-20 loss when the Outlaws got the deciding points in the OT play.

The Express Bantams will be back on their home field at Mel Mitchell on Sunday, July 1, when they host the Toronto Jets.

The kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The Outlaws went ahead by 22 points early in the third quarter, then followed with another goal.

Trailing by 26 points in the fourth quarter the Express turned it up a notch and played a well-disciplined quarter starting with a solid run by Makias Harvey-Dick and touchdown by Cory Akerfeldt.
