The Community Living Association of South Simcoe (CLASS) held their 25th Annual Golf Tournament on August 15 at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort.

Vito Facciolo, Executive Director of CLASS noted that, since taking on the anchor sponsor role, the Canadian Division of Direct Buy had made the tournament a huge success in raising funds that go towards improving the quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities in the South Simcoe area.

In addition to a great day of golf, participants enjoyed Hole-In-One contests, live and silent auctions, prizes, dinner and more.

The CLASS Golf Tournament was started by Tottenham resident, John Milne, 25 years ago. Since its inception, the tournament has raised roughly $800,000.

This year, 125 golfers, plus 11 guests for dinner, raised $45,000.

“Operationally we are funded one hundred per cent by the Ministry of Community and Social Services of the Ontario government. This takes care of the basics and restricts how many people we can support,” said Facciolo on the need to raise funds privatively. “Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to enhance our residential capacity.”

CLASS is a charitable organization that supports adults and children with intellectual disabilities across many facets of living. Including 24 hour residential care; supported independent living; recreation; supported employment; after school activities; respite for families and more as required by individuals.

“A big thank you to the Nottawasaga Foundation for donating $6,500,” said Facciolo. “We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our community.”
