A third period goal from forward Caden Maher with 21 seconds left on the clock gave the Alliston Hornets their first win of the season on Friday night, September 14, at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.

The home opener against the Caledon Golden Hawks saw an almost all new line-up of Hornets players hit the ice for the start of the 2018 / 19 season.

The first period recorded only a single goal when Caledon scored at 5:41 into the period.

Alliston’s Maher got the only second period goal scoring at the midway mark to make it a tie game.

The Hornets went ahead early in the final frame when Finn Reeves found the back of the Caledon net, but that was a short-lived lead when the Golden Hawks tied the game four-and a-half minutes later.

The tie breaker came late when Maher scored the final goal to give the Alliston squad their first win of the year.

The Carruthers division of the PJHL as eight teams in the line-up this season – all teams returning from last year.

The Hornets will be back on home ice at the NTRC this Friday, September 21, when they will host the Huntsville Otters.
