One Toronto man and two boys are facing second degree murder charges following the shooting death of Tottenham man Beghet Toma Eyup.

Mr. Eyup, 49, sustained multiple gunshot wounds at a Vaughan plaza, succumbing to his injuries.

Charged are 18-year-old Shaqwan Reid of Toronto, and two male youth 15 and 16 years of age. The charges have not been proven in court. Police say an additional suspect is still at large.

“On Friday, September 21, shortly after 8 p.m., York Regional Police were called to a plaza located at 3850 Steeles Avenue West in the City of Vaughan for a report of the sound of gunshots,” said Constable Andy Pattenden in a statement. “When officers arrived, they found a 49-year-old male victim at the rear of the plaza, in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries. With the assistance of the Toronto Police Service, the suspect vehicle was located in the City of Toronto and three suspects were taken into custody.

“Investigators have reason to believe that there was an additional suspect involved in the incident. They are not releasing any further details on the suspect at this time. However, they are urging this person to seek legal counsel and turn himself in immediately. Anyone who aids or assists this suspect in escaping or evading police may be subject to a criminal charge of Accessory After the Fact.”

Police say investigators have been interviewing witnesses since the incident and will be following up on information gained through this cooperation. Any additional witnesses that may have seen or heard anything in the area leading up to, or following, the shooting are asked to contact police.
