The Times of New Tecumseth & Adjala–Tosorontio asked the four candidates for School Board Trustee (Simcoe County District School Board) – Anne Marie Rose-Mighty, Sarah Beitz, Cristina Derks-Parsons, Janice Hutchinson – the same 14 questions we asked the candidates for Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the eight Ward Councillor positions. Here is the response we received from one Trustee candidate – others to be printed, verbatim, as they are received.

Sarah Beitz

My name is Sarah Beitz and I am running for SCDSB Trustee for New Tecumseth and Bradford West Gwillimbury. I believe in public education and in the potential of the youth in our community. I have four children all attending public school and have been volunteering at their schools for the past 6 years. I believe that 90% of life is showing up and I will show up for our community, our schools, and most importantly for our children.

Education is so important. I have a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Science from McMaster University. I also have a Maters of Engineering degree in Green Energy from The University of Waterloo. I love learning and want to help improve public education, to foster a love of learning in all students.

As a trustee I will advocate for our community by establishing open communication with the 12 elementary schools, two secondary schools, and two alternative learning centres within New Tecumseth and Bradford West Gwillimbury. I will do this by regularly visiting the schools and by listening to both staff and students. I will be approachable and easily accessible to all.

We are a growing community, with new homes being built that attract families, which in turn is constantly increasing our school populations. There are children/teens everywhere in our community and its wonderful.  Kindergarten registration grows every year and our schools are already heavily populated with primary students. As the population grows and younger students progress through the years, our biggest challenge over the next four years is ensuring that the infrastructure, programs, and resources are in place so that no student suffers by overcrowding.

I believe in public education and see that there is much good, however there are also areas that need improvement. I will advocate and show up for our communities and our children. It is my hope that you will entrust me with the great honour to serve as SCDSB Trustee by electing me on Monday, October 22, 2018.

Please reach out to me at anytime, as I want to get to know you.
