Alliston Union partners with Trillium Ford to Scare Hunger this Hallowe’en

Trillium Ford Lincoln Ltd.  has once again partnered with staff and students at Alliston Union Public School to collect non-perishable food items and cash for the two local food banks – Good Shepherd Alliston, and Our Town Tottenham/Beeton.

The “ME to WE” based food drive, entitled “WE Scare Hunger”, is a Ford Motor Co. Canada program, with voluntary registration from local Ford dealerships and partnering area schools.

This is the second year Trillium Ford Lincoln and Alliston Union will work cooperatively for the WE-based food drive, which runs from Tuesday, October 9 until Friday, November 2, 2018.

Public donations can be dropped off to Trillium Ford – 4589 Industrial Parkway, Alliston (beside the Nottawasaga OPP station), and will be shared between the food banks prior to the holiday season, based on immediate needs.

Social Justice students from Grade 5–8 at Alliston Union PS have a full year of “WE” activities planned, including:

• We Scare Hunger Campaign to support local food banks
• Vow of Silence: raise awareness of social justice issues, specifically, people in our world who are forced to remain silent or face severe and life-threatening repercussions. Me To We students will be wearing placards explaining why they are remaining silent while in the hallways our outside at recess. They will be collecting pledges with the proceeds to We Villages.
• Campaign to raise awareness of issues in the community (homelessness, women’s shelters, poverty) by collecting food and toys (Lions’ Christmas Hamper programs), food/toys/feminine Hygiene projects (My Sister’s Place), Sock Tree to collect warm socks, hygiene products, Timmie’s cards (Out of The Cold Shelter).
• Goat Race to purchase two goats for We Villages: Three paths mapped out on walls of the school (one for each division). Each division has its own goat cut out. Every time coins are donated, the Division Goat advances. The race is to see who gets to the third floor first.
• Rafikki Bracelet bracelets for Valentine’s Day in order to support Me To We Health Initiative in Kenya
• Share a Toonie funraiser to support Education Growth Plan for Sierra Leone
• Water Walk to support Water First Organization: funds raised to go to Indigenous Youth Training Initiative

These programs are carried out with help from teacher Ms. Natalie Clinton, Grade 6 – French Immersion.
