Handel’s Messiah comes to New Tecumseth

December 7, 2018   ·   0 Comments

The New Tecumseth Singers, along with their friends from the Dufferin Concert Singers, will be presenting Handel’s Messiah under the direction of John Wervers on Sunday, December 16, at Banting Memorial High School, 203 Victoria Street East, Alliston, at 3:00 p.m.

The 95-member choir will be accompanied by the Waterloo Chamber Players orchestra and four soloists.

The soloists include local area bass singer Lorne Derraugh who wears many hats in the region’s musical and theatre scene. Soprano Hannah Shelton-Campbell and Alto Cara Cameron come from the Dufferin area and have performed in Alliston on numerous occasions.

Tenor Blair Spry recently graduated from Wifrid Laurier University and resides in Brantford.

Messiah is perhaps the best-known and best loved of all major choral works. Only an inspired person could have produced this masterpiece in less than a month. After 277 years, this triumphant work continues to move audiences around the world at Christmas and Easter time.

The work is a major undertaking, and the New Tecumseth Singers enthusiastically take this project on every few years so that area residents have an opportunity to hear and observe this intense work in their own neighbourhood.

A project of this size can only happen with the support and encouragement of our local audience.

The singer, soloists and orchestra members look forward to meeting you at Banting on Sunday,
