An afternoon tea, celebrating International Women’s Day, was held at the Alliston Legion on Saturday, March 9, as hosted by My Sister’s Place – the local women and children’s shelter.

The event was sold-out, with 160 in attendance.

Tickets were $20 each, with 100 per cent of the $4,000 in funds raised directly supporting My Sister’s Place.

The event included live entertainment, a raffle, door prizes, and a delicious high tea spread, consisting of scones with clotted cream and jam, fruit water, sliced fruit, egg, ham, cucumber and chicken finger sandwiches, veggies and dip and cucumber bites, date, Nanaimo and fruit crumble squares, cream puffs and, of course, a selection of teas.

Supporters of the event included: Peta at Jam Good Alliston, Mars Canada, Carriage House Bakery Alliston, Flowers by Lady Di Alliston, 9 Live Boutique II Alliston, Angie at The Knitting Basket Rosemont, Alliston Legion, Donna, Anita and The Ladies Auxiliary, Tammy Cupelleo of Thirty One Bags Details Alliston, Laura at Echoes in the Attic, Rowan and Oak Soaps, Ground Burger Bar, Pandora Jewellery Canada, Buckley Insurance Brokers, with music by Jenna and Harrison.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 globally and acknowledges the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and is a call to action for equality. The theme for 2019 was “Better the Balance, Better the World”, following the hash tag #bettertheworld.
