No better way to spend a chilly Saturday evening in March than to be warmed up by the glorious music from one of the country’s best kept cultural secrets “THAT CHOIR.”

One of Canada’s best a cappella vocal ensembles will be performing at St. John’s United Church in Alliston on Saturday March 23 at 7:30 p.m. This is a high calibre group composed of 30 auditioned singers with diverse cultural backgrounds.

“THAT CHOIR’ was founded in 2008 by conductor Craig Pike. He started the choir with 12 of his friends and within a year, it had ballooned to 34 singers. It is now made up of playwrights, bankers, and students.

It is by far the youngest non-school/university based choirs in Toronto. Craig Pike’s gift of the gab and his training as a professional actor and a Newfoundlander, captivates the audience.

You will be mesmerized by the incredible blend of voices as they treat you to a broad range of music from Amazing Grace, Danny Boy, Rachmaninoff Vespers, to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, ranging from classics to jazz while honouring a commitment to Canadian composers such as Eleanor Daley, Ruth Watson Henderson and Lydia Adams. These concerts will appeal to the whole family.

“THAT CHOIR” is the first concert in the 2019 music series. This is the third year that St. John’s has presented a very successful music series that has featured vocal quartet “Cadence,” Canada’s flagship vocal ensemble Elmer Iseler Singers and CCMA Award winning Country Singer, Victoria Banks.

John Dodington, the creator of the music series is constantly looking for performers that would attract the capacity audiences that have been attending these performances.

“I look for some of Canada’s most dynamic musical performers providing a range of musical styles from Country, Celtic, Classical and Jazz so it covers all styles of vocal music so there is something for everyone.”

Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for students, and are available at Papermoon Gallery, Herbert’s Boots & Western Wear, St. John’s United Church, and from calling Pat Morrison at 705-435-7598 or Mardi Dodington at 416-451-1504.

Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
