The “Young Singers” will be performing in the final concert of St. John’s music series in Alliston on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 7:30 pm.

Young Singers is a dynamic community choir in the Durham region. The choir was founded in 1992 by well accomplished and respected conductor Anna Lynn Murphy.

She is presently a music director at St. Dunstan of Canterbury Anglican Church in Scarborough.

Anna Lynn will be joined by fellow conductor Mark Oracion, who got his Bachelor of Music degree in Education from the University of Toronto majoring in piano with a focus on choral conducting. The Young Singers are very blessed to have Lois Craig accompanying on piano for the past 26 years; she holds a Master of Music in accompanying.

Concert organizer John Dodington said, “I have been asked many times why I don’t book a group of young singers to appear in our concert series. Well, now I have, and not only that, but I have booked one of the best youth choirs and they just happen to be called ‘Young Singers’.”

The Young Singers perform regularly in the GTA and have recorded three albums. Renowned as Durham’s choral ambassadors, this award-winning choir has performed in many International venues including Salisbury and Canterbury Cathedrals in England; the Cork School of Music and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. In 2013 they performed in China as Canadian cultural ambassadors singing in Beijing, Shanghai and on the Great Wall of China in the coastal city of Qinhuangdao and appeared on national television. They have even appeared on stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Closer to home, they have performed in many venues across Canada from the Maritimes to British Columbia and have shared the stage with Donny Osmond, Michael Burgess, and Liona Boyd, as well as performing the national anthem for the Blue Jays, Toronto Argonauts, and the Prime Minister.

This 40-voice choir range in age from 10 to 18 years of age and will be joined by the “Dodington Youth Singers” for the grand finale. Come and enjoy this electrifying evening as these 40 plus youthful voices fill this superb acoustical venue, not only with their perfectly blended voices but also their enthusiasm, vitality and their love of singing. How fortunate we are that they accepted our invitation despite an already busy schedule.
