Matthews House Hospice celebrated its first anniversary last Thursday, July 11, at its new centre for excellence located at 13 Wellington Street East in Alliston.

County of Simcoe officials, from the Simcoe County Hospice Alliance, were on hand for the occasion to complete a cheque presentation as part of the County’s three-year funding commitment to support area hospice care.

Simcoe County Hospice Alliance includes representatives from Hospice Simcoe, Hospice Georgian Triangle, Hospice Huronia, Matthews House Hospice and Mariposa House Hospice.

Matthew House Hospice’s one-year anniversary was made possible in part due to the County’s funding contributions.

The mission of Matthews House Hospice is to “walk together with families through the journey of illness and grief.”

“We offer a variety of day programs, counselling, palliative care and resident round-the-clock services for individuals suffering from illness and their families,” said Andrea Roylance, Manager Gifts and Gratitude.

“Thanks to our head kitchen volunteer, Cheryl Nuttall, friends and family of Matthews House Hospice enjoyed a beautiful strawberry shortcake on July 11 to celebrate our one-year anniversary in the Centre of Excellence,” said Roylance. “So many milestones and accomplishments have happened over the first year at this ten-bed residential hospice and celebration was the name of the game this week.”

MHH recently launched its ‘Storytelling Program’ to ensure the life and lessons of those who have passed on before us live on.
