CLASS (Community Living Association of South Simcoe) will host its 26th annual Golf Tournament at the Nottawasaga Inn & Resort on August 21.

The event raises an average of $43,000 each year – making it one of the largest fundraising events for the non-profit organization that works with adults with intellectual disabilities. Funds are used to purchase homes to accommodate people in the community using CLASS services, and for vehicles for the people supported by CLASS.

“Many of the people we support also have significant physical disabilities and psychiatric challenges,” said Vito Facciolo, executive director of CLASS. “We serve approximately four hundred people annually, and more than a hundred of them live with us in twenty group homes.”

CLASS also supports roughly forty people in their own apartment through its Supported Independent Living Programs.

“The others live at home and come to our various day programs that we provide in two different sites in Alliston and Bradford,” said Facciolo.

Members of the community can assist CLASS in various ways at their upcoming tournament.

• Register to play golf

• Provide hole sponsorships

• Donate prizes for the silent or live auctions

• Sponsor someone with a disability to play golf or for the dinner

• Volunteer or donate money to the agency in support of the fundraiser

On the day of the event, entry fee per golfer is $180.

“This will get them eighteen rounds of golf with a cart and a fulsome steak dinner,” said Facciolo. “It will also provide them an opportunity to bid on some fantastic auction merchandise.”

“This is a fun filled day for the participants that will increase the quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities,” added Nancy De Luca, Fundraising and Community Development Coordinator for CLASS. “CLASS has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities in the South Simcoe area since 1962. All proceeds from the golf tournament will go to enhancing support.”

Additional upcoming fund raisers for CLASS include:

• Cool Moose Creamery Ice Cream Block Party (date TBA)

• Soup n Bun Fundraiser – September 9th, Tottenham United Church
