100 Women Who Care New Tecumseth held its quarterly meeting at the Gibson Centre for Arts & Culture in Alliston on Thursday, September 19.

In all, 52 women attended – a jump in numbers with 16 new members gained, and $4,600 received through $100 instalments per member.

The organization is still expecting 17 pending payments for a total possible donation to local charity of $6,300.

The groups second of four annual meetings, held in May, raised $4,400, so interest in the group is growing.

During the September meeting, three local charities presented a case for support.

These amazing, local initiatives, made for a tough choice for the independent vote, but the final recipient chosen by ballot was BrainiACTS presented by It Takes a Village.

BrainiACTS, will be an after-school program that brings together a team of tutors and teachers to help young children with reading, literacy skills and homework completion, and will start initially with children in Grade 3, with plans to expand to other grades in the future.

“Our funds will go towards assessment tools, computer software, books for a lending library, communication journals for parents, snacks and other miscellaneous materials this program needs in order to run successfully. Program location is St. Andrew Anglican Church in Alliston which acts as the umbrella charitable organization for this program. The program is open to the general community and participants do not need to be members of the church to access the program,” said the BrainiACTS representative at the September meeting.

If you were unable to make the meeting last week, donation payments are due within one week of each quarterly meeting.

Payments can be made by cash or cheque made payable to the umbrella charitable organization “St. Andrew Anglican Church” with a memo notation “BrainiACTS”. Your charitable receipt will come to you from St. Andrew. Payments can be delivered to the attention of Debbie Hudson at TD Wealth in Alliston. Please submit by Monday, September 30.

“A heartfelt thank you once again from everyone on the Steering Committee and from It Takes A Village! And to our corportae sponsors as well, including: Gibson Centre, Debbie Hudson, TD Wealth, Circle Theatre, Jade Coulson, Sutton Group Realty, Concession Road Mercantile, Briar Criar, New Tecumseth Times, Lisa Purchase @ The Mortgage Station, Kelly Higgins Graphic Design and The Beach House Spa & Wellness.”

With the newly added members, 100 Plus Women Who Care New Tecumseth is thrilled by the growth of the group – but is still striving to hit 100 members by the end of 2019.

They are asking community members to ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ their message on Facebook at www.facebook.com/100WomenNewTecumseth/

Local charities are also encouraged to submit an application for funding. A link to information for new charities can be found on the website at www.100womennewtec.com/for-charities/

The next meeting, and the final meeting of 2019, is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 at 7 p.m. at The Gibson Centre in the Mercer Pub.
