Cookstown set to host Light Up Night

The Cookstown Light Up Night, as presented by the Cookstown & District Chamber of Commerce, will take place this Saturday, November 30.

Welcome winter village style at Cookstown’s annual Light Up Night. Visit the shops in historic downtown Cookstown for holiday gifts, decor and festive treats. Enjoy the sweet sounds of strolling carollers and meet Ebenezer Scrooge and his sidekicks from South Simcoe Theatre. You might even bump into a Victorian Santa and Mrs. Claus. Don’t forget your letter to Santa – his mailbox is at the Cookstown Chamber Office at 19 Queen. 

Halliday House & Co. at 9 Queen is hosting the 3rd Annual 6×6 by Cookstown exhibition of tiny local art. 

At 6 p.m. the Town Crier will call everyone to 4 Queen Street for the official tree lighting. 

Step into the Masonic Hall next door for the Rainbow Girls (Junior Shriners) Cookie Round Bake Sake. 

At 6:30 p.m., it’s the Santa Claus parade, starting from Home Hardware at the west end of town, east along Queen to the Cookstown Library. Queen Street (Hwy 89) will be closed to traffic for the parade. Follow the parade to the library for hot chocolate and a seasonal singalong. 

Special this year, the Cookstown & District Chamber of Commerce and Cookstown Library are presenting a free family film, My Dad Is Scrooge, at 2 p.m. at the library, 20 Church St. Filmed locally, you’ll recognize Cookstown’s St. Mary’s Church (formerly Countryside United) and inside South Simcoe Theatre. You might spot some familiar faces as several locals joined the cast as extras. Keith Cooper of Innisfil who wrote the screenplay will be in attendance for a Q&A after the film. Free popcorn.
