On Saturday, December 7, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Alliston Lions Club and the Nottawasaga Detachment of the OPP held a Stuff a Cruiser event at Walmart, Giant Tiger and Canadian Tire in Alliston.

“We collected new and unwrapped toys for children up to twelve years of age,” said Jaime Karsch of the Alliston Lions Club. “We also collected gift cards and cash donations which we’ll use to purchase gift cards for older kids.”

The outcome was a huge success once again, with several vehicles and police cruisers loaded full of toys and non-perishable food items for transportation to the local Alliston Lions Hall to be sorted and organized. There were also many generous cash donations received.

“We had local police officers at three locations to assist in collecting donations,” said Karsch. “The OPP started the day with Shop with a Cop at Walmart before helping with our event.”

The proceeds of this event are used in the Alliston Lions Club Christmas Hamper Program, where approximately 270 families and 170 kids are assisted to ensure everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

The Alliston Lions Club Christmas Hamper Campaign started in 1937 and it continues to grow larger each year.

“We are still collecting new and unwrapped toys and non-perishable food at many businesses, schools and churches in Alliston and they can be dropped off anywhere there is a Red-Barrel,” said Karsch. “You can contact the Alliston Lions Club at 705-435-4012 or visit our Facebook page for more information.”

“We live in an incredibly generous community, they’re the reason our Christmas Hamper program is so successful year after year,” continued Karsch.

The officers from the Nottawasaga OPP and the Alliston Lions Club wish to thank everyone who donated to help local families during the holidays.
