The Alliston Hornets added another two points to their season total after a 7 – 3 win over the Penetang Kings during a rare Saturday night game at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on December 28.

It was a packed house as it was minor hockey night and a lot young hockey players and their parents turned out to watch the local hometown heroes on the ice.

Alliston forward Ben Taylor scored the opening goal of the night at 12:50 into the first period.

After more that half a period of no goals, the final four minutes produced a lot of action.

Mitch Livingston scored to make it a 2 – 0 game.

The Penetang squad got on the scoreboard a minute and a half later.

Jordan Taylor gave the Hornets a 3 -1 lead with goal with one minute left on the clock for the frame.

The Kings got their second of the night with five seconds left in the period.

The Hornets extended their lead to 5 -2 early in the second period on a goal from Taylor – his second of the night, and a powerplay goal from Liam Kendall.

The Kings notched single in the second period.

During the final period the only scoring came from the Hornets when Keegan Gillis-McAnulty scored on a power play at 1:53 into the frame, and a third goal from Taylor to make it a hattrick for him for the night.

Despite the fact that the Hornets gave up three goals, the final shot tally, 41 Alliston shots on net and 19 by Penetang, gave an indicator of how much of the action took place in the Kings end during the night.

The Hornets are in first place in the North Carruthers division with 52 points. They are now ten points ahead of the second place Stayner Siskins.

The Orillia Terriers are in third spot with 40 points followed by the Schomberg Cougars with 35.

The Hornets will be back on home ice this Friday, January 3, when they will host the Stayner Siskins.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
