The Alliston Lions Club collected non-perishable food items, new unwrapped toys and gift cards for teenagers for use in their annual Christmas Hamper program. This year, more than ever was donated.

“The Alliston Lions Roar a loud thank you to our very generous residents, neighbours, friends, fellow volunteer service organizations, and local businesses,” said Alliston Lions Hamper Chair Mike Jerry. “Now it is time for us to shop locally by supporting those organizations that supported our Hamper campaign.”

These efforts allowed the Alliston Lions to bring Christmas cheer to 152 families, and 260 children this holiday season.

Jerry told The Times he’d like to extend special thanks to the families of Alliston Lions Club members for, “putting up with us being ‘away’ these past few weeks with the campaign.”

He adds, “The rewarding long hours with hard and heavy work, made it more of a special ‘Roaring Good Time’. Merry Christmas to all.”

Alliston Lions Club Public Relations Chair Jaime Karsch said, “A few days before we gave out the Hampers we were short on several items, such as rice, Stovetop stuffing and condiments. We put a message on our Facebook page asking the community for help and we had an outpour of support. It was a very snowy day, the roads were awful and still the community was showing up, one by one with donations. Our amazing community rallied behind us to ensure we had enough donations to fill our hampers. We were short roughly 100 of each item, by the end of that day we had close to 200 Stovetop donated plus dozens of everything else we needed. The hampers were stuffed full, all thanks to contributions of our amazing community.”

She adds, “We want to thank each and every business, school, church and individual who supported the Hamper Program this year and every year.”

In addition to supporting local families through the Hamper Program, the Alliston Lions also donated 4,048 pounds of food to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

The good work of the Alliston Lions continues throughout the year.
