New Year’s Day will be even more special in the coming years for area residents Kathra Baker and Nial Bolton.

Baker and Bolton welcomed their new daughter, Lilah, at Stevenson Memorial Hospital at 9.23 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, the first baby to be born at the hospital in the New Year and the new decade.

“We are absolutely thrilled to ring in 2020 with the birth of baby Lilah, as well as the delivery of three additional bundles of joy,” said Bridget Mitchell, Manager of Obstetrics and Peri-Operative Services at Stevenson in a statement. “To have not only one but four babies born in our obstetrics unit to start the new year is so exciting to us. We are honoured to have so many families choose to deliver at Stevenson memorial Hospital and to provide a comfortable, safe and memorable experience for them.”

Baker and Bolton were assisted in the delivery of Lilah, who weighed in at 8lbs 9oz by Crissy Hull, RM (Midwife), assisted by Holly Ryan, RM from Alliston Midwives.

Lilah came into the world in a place with a remarkable reputation in the field of obstetrics. According to Stevenson, the hospital boasts a 100 per cent satisfaction rate with maternity patients and has one of the largest and most respected midwifery programs in the area.

The hospital was recently named one of the Province’s top performers in Maternity Care by the Ontario Hospital Association and National Research Corporation Canada.

Last year, Stevenson delivered 461 babies, the highest number in a single year – a sign of the growing community.

Currently, Stevenson offers 38 inpatient beds and a range of outpatient diagnostic and treatment services, including cataract, general surgery, maternal childcare and dialysis, along with an emergency department which covers the community twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
