The Everett Firefighters Association is hosing a dance in support of the Terry Weatherup Memorial Scholarship Fund, at the Everett Legion, on Saturday, March 14, at 8 p.m.

The theme is Toast the Irish, and there will be games, a silent auction and prizes with no cover charge.

Donations can be made to the EFFA c/o the Terry Weatherup  Memorial Scholarship Fund.

“Weapon (Terry) was an amazing leader in our community, a friend, a mentor and above all a great human being,” said Toni Schofield, Adjala–Tosorontio, volunteer firefighter. “Let’s raise a glass to him on Saturday and help carry on his legacy, by supporting the students of our community!”

The Terry Weatherup Memorial Scholarship will be presented annually to a student at Tosorontio Central Public School as chosen by teachers. The student will embody the traits of the school’s code and also those of the Maltese Cross – respect, sympathy, tact, observation, perseverance, loyalty, dexterity and confidence.

Additionally, the Banting Memorial Award is $1,000 and is chosen by an EFFA committee and Terry’s wife, Carrie Ellen Clark-Weatherup (also a fire fighter with Barrie), by submission – as measured by more than just their grades.

“This student must be going into the trades, have more than the minimum 40 hours of community service, have a desire to improve the outdoors/environment and they apply by way of video instead of writing an essay,” said Schofield. “Terry struggled his whole life with ADD and dysgraphia (inability to write coherently, as a symptom of brain disease or damage), in an age where there were few accommodations. His marks never indicated his intelligence unless it was a verbal test. He loved being in the outdoors whether it was working at the cottage or hunting. His love for his community was strong and grass roots which is what made people know and love him wherever he lived and worked.”

Terry “Weapon” Weatherup, December 16, 1964 – February 15, 2018, was a District Fire Chief with Adjala–Tosorontio Fire and Rescue. He passed away from heart failure, after serving as a fire fighter for more than 30 years.
