Local health unit issues warning about phishing scam

April 24, 2020   ·   0 Comments

The Simcoe Muskoka Public Health Unit (SMDHU) is warning the public about phishing scams on the internet right now.

Individuals are reportedly posing as public health officials to get unauthorized information from individuals.

“I’d like to assure you that when we contact you it’s by phone, it’s authorized, we give detailed information about who we are and how you can follow up to ensure we are who we are,” said SMDHU Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner.

“If you have any doubt about a contact from public health to you, call us in order to verify or find out whether or not it’s the real thing,” he continued.

“I certainly wouldn’t want anyone harmed in anyway by someone else’s scam related to this.”
