Town continuing with certain services, projects amidst COVID-19

With almost everybody stuck inside due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of people are tackling renovations and home improvement projects.

Despite many of New Tecumseth's municipal services being temporarily closed, under provincial directives, the building department has remained open and continues to accept applications.

However, to keep building inspectors safe, they have not physically gone inside any residences for inspections since COVID-19 became a pandemic. Instead, they are finding alternative ways to ensure everything is up to code.

“Between our chief building official and our deputy chief building official, they've gotten fairly creative with virtual tours and FaceTiming inspections,” said Town CAO Blaine Parkin at a special Council Meeting last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the local Business Improvement Associations and Town of New Tecumseth are again working together to display hanging baskets downtown in the face of COVID-19.

Gardens by the Town's signage at its entries will be maintained as well.

While there will be less people travelling through New Tecumseth and less foot traffic downtown, Parkin said maintaining a vibrant municipality is still paramount, even during the pandemic.

“Our position is it's a priority actually, to continue to show the pride in our town and to have it looking the very best it possible can,” he explained.
