Town Councillor shines light on International Day of Families

May 15, 2020   ·   0 Comments

Friday, May 15, is the International Day of Families and a local Councillor took the opportunity to recognize the special day at Monday’s regular council meeting.

“In many ways, the world this year looks very different, almost globally families are facing additional challenges,” said Ward 5 Councillor Donna Jebb. “Either separated in isolation, locked down or facing indefinite periods in their homes with little opportunity to engage with the outside world.”

Councillor Jebb said these are the luckily families, who are privileged to have safe homes and circumstances which allow them to social distance and isolate.

“For those without these options, the future may feel even more bleak,” she stressed. “Of course, one of the most common phrases around the world must currently be, ‘when will we return to normal?’”

“The chilling reality is that for many families, normal was not great to begin with,” Councillor Jebb added.

She encourages town residents to take the opportunity to observe the International Day of Families on May 15.
