Tennis anyone? Tottenham club now open for the summer

As far as sports go, tennis provides a natural barrier and distance between competitors while on the court. There is no contact between players during a match and the sport provides some good exercise as well and a level of skill required to place the ball and make for a good game.

The Tottenham Tennis Club is now open for the summer.

The Club opened on May 19, after receiving the directive from the provincial government that tennis clubs were getting the green light to open for the season.

Registration for members as well as lessons took place on May 23, and May 27, at the clubhouse in the park.

Members can play on one of three hard surface courts at Keogh Park. Each court is fully fenced so you never have balls from other games rolling into your court while you play.

The Club works on a membership basis and membership is required to access the courts.

While many summer sports have been postponed or cancelled outright, tennis has been deemed safe to play because of the natural physical distancing that takes place on the court.

The club is a volunteer run organization focused on enhancing the well being and fitness of all age groups with affordable, first class tennis skills development.

It offers recreational and competitive activities.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still a concern, the Club has adopted recommendations from the Ontario Tennis Association to help facilitate a safe return to play on the courts. This includes safe rule of play including marking balls so only one person hands a particular tennis ball.

Other safe distancing measures are expected to be followed by Club members when they are on the courts.

With tennis clubs being on the list of sporting venues now allowed to operate around the province, enthusiasts can once again enjoy the physical activity and competitive nature of the sport.
