First “summer” event of 2020: RURBAN Farmers Market in Alliston

May 29, 2020   ·   0 Comments

With the weather warming up, many Ontarians who have been obeying the Provincial government’s stay-at-home orders are eager to get outside and enjoy the sun.

Nicer temperatures usually bring about community events on the weekends and outdoor activities, but this has been greatly impeded by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fortunately, the Alliston Business Improvement Association (BIA) is opening their 2020 RURBAN Farmers Market next Saturday, June 6.

The market will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until the end of October and is located at Centre Street and Victoria Street

“This annual RURBAN event has been running for the past nine years and is one of our most popular with our local community. The start of our market is a welcome sign that summer is here!” said Linda Spurr, General Manager of the Alliston BIA.

The safety of visitors, vendors and staff is of the utmost importance to her organization, she said, so the required safety measures and signage will be in place for everyone’s comfort.

As well, at the downtown market this year – alongside the fresh produce, seedlings and flowers – customers will find delicious jams and jellies, baked breads, tarts, biscotti, energy bites, pickles, syrup and honey.

New to the 2020 Farmers’ Market is Indian Flames, who will be serving up their hot, crispy and delicious samosas.

Spurr said the Alliston BIA is inviting everyone to their RURBAN Farmers Market, where they can stroll downtown and visit their shops while supporting local businesses.

COVID-19 has most severely impacted small business owners so supporting the local economy and entrepreneurs when possible is important for helping the municipality maintain a strong tax base and vibrant business community.

“Enjoy your Rurban Experience and ‘Shop Like you Live Here,’” Spurr said.
