Tottenham Tennis Club open for summer registration

June 4, 2020   ·   0 Comments

The Tottenham Tennis Club is open and looking forward to a summer of exercise and skilled racquet sports on the courts at Keogh Park.

Tennis is one on only two sports, the other being golf, that has been given the green light by the province to start the summer season.

Considered a “safe” sport to play because of the natural distance on the court between players and the fact that it is played outdoors, tennis is popular local sport and the courts at Keogh Park are busy all summer long.

The club features recreational and competitive play and also offers lessons to both adults and kids.

The Tennis Club held a registration night on Wednesday, May 27, to get the season started. It was their second registration night.

The Club usually registers close to around 120 players every summer.

“We’re doing registration for members,” explained Club executive member Susan Butcher. “If members register for a Club membership, they get a key to the courts and access to the courts. We also have lessons and you can sign up for that. You don’t have to be a member to sign up for lessons.”

Membership fees help pay for maintenance as well as the electricity to run the lights. Night tennis is available thanks to the lights situated around the courts.

Because of current rules limiting the number of people at gatherings, the Club has had to make some changes on the courts.

“We’re hoping to do camps if numbers allow and things change with COVID, but right now we’re limited to only four kids or four adults per group,” Ms. Butcher explained.

Lessons are a popular way to learn the sport and develop the skills needed so you can have a successful and enjoyable time on the courts.
