Tottenham hockey team re-branding for 2020 / 21 season

There is a new image, logo, and colours for the hockey team that represents the Greater Metro Hockey League in Tottenham.

The Tottenham Express is the new name for the squad in town.

Previously known as the Steam, General Manager and Head Coach Matt Hamilton took over ownership of the team earlier this year and wants to start fresh with the new look and get some buzz going to support the organization during the upcoming season.

Hamilton has been involved with the team for the past three seasons.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a few years now,” Hamilton said. “I thought this was perfect timing to re-brand as the Express. We have a new logo and new colours – navy blue and white.”

Hamilton said the new colours will go well with the existing colour scheme in the Tottenham arena.

The team is already recruiting for the upcoming season.

“We’ve already signed on most of the team,” Hamilton said. “We only have three returning players. We already have a couple of players here in town who come from Alberta. They are here working. We’re slated to get on the ice on October 1, pending no second wave or anything like that, as long as the town opens up the arena. I have been told it’s going to be September 7. Our season will fire up on October 1.”

The squad plans to start on-ice training on September 21.

The GMHL has 24 teams listed in the line-up for the upcoming season in three divisions.

The North and South Divisions have ten teams each, with the west division filled in with four squad.

Tottenham is in the South Division.

Hockey will get a slow start across the province this year as individual municipalities will determine when their arenas will be open for play.

It has not yet been announced what restrictions will be in place to accommodate social distancing or related practices once hockey games are allowed to proceed.
