Town Administration Centre now open for some walk-in services

August 28, 2020   ·   0 Comments

The Town of New Tecumseth’s Administration Centre has reopened its doors to the public for certain walk-in services, available through its customer service team.

These services include getting dog licenses, parking permits, garbage tags/bins and payment of parking tickets or a death certificate.

Services that still require an appointment include discussing projects with Town Staff, permit applications, marriage license pick up, tow truck licenses, and the pick up or drop off of freedom of information documents.

“This approach seems to be working well as we do see our residents attending Town Hall as required and making appointments as needed and really this approach has been detailed out and communicated out to our residents and our public and people are accepting of it and working well with it,” said Town CAO Blaine Parkin.

“So far, we’ve had anywhere from 18 to 40 people coming through the Admin Centre over the course of a day. It’s been varying but everyone has been extremely understanding and cooperative of the need to do certain things and abide by certain instructions and restrictions.”

Even though the Administration Centre is open, Parkin said he continues to encourage the public to use technology and online options whenever possible.

The Centre has been reserved from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to allow seniors and immune-compromised individuals to access in-person services with a greater degree of safety and peace of mind.

The interior of the Administration Centre looks a bit different now with cues for physical distancing on the floor and appropriate signage to remind residents to stay safe.

The only entrance to the Centre is using the south door, facing Wellington street, and the north door is exclusively being used as an exit.

Temporary accessible parking has been added to the street, in proximity to the entrance.

“We’re working on adding accessible push buttons to open the doors on the south side of the building but in the meantime, should someone need any assistance then our staff is readily available to provide that assistance,” Parkin noted.

The Joint Operations Centre is open, but still by appointment only.

Anyone who enters a Town building or facility must wear a mask or face covering and abide by all the pubic health guidelines pertaining to COVID-19.

In other news, the Town’s bylaw officers will soon be returning to enforce the five-hour overnight parking restrictions

The bylaw was eased during the pandemic but will begin being enforced again on a complaint basis after Labour Day, September 7.
