All of the magic of Matthews House Hospice’s Butterfly Ball is being spread across New Tecumseth and beyond this Friday, September 25, at its virtual gala.

The online event is being produced by Rogers TV and ticket-holders can tune into it on Channel 65 or stream online at

Matthews House has to fundraise 85 per cent of its budget for programming and services each year and its goal is to raise $300,000 this Friday.

“This is our signature event of the year and this year we have found a new fun and exciting way to do it,” said Brenda Pufek, Community Engagement and Development at Matthews House.

“It’s going to be a great evening that you can spend in the comfort of your own home.”

Typically, the gala is held at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre and around 400 to 500 people attend.

Musical entertainment will be provided by local artists Just the Two of Us and Tim Ronan, as well as Canadian icon Amy Sky.

A silent auction with over 50 items that have been donated by the community and beyond will be held online at in conjunction with the gala, where people can bid on items like a Maple Leafs Jersey signed by all the Premiers of Canada.

Pufek told The Times fundraising is essential for running its service as the hospice’s programs are free.

“All of these fundraisers that we do help us provide important programs and services for people in the community that need it,” she noted.

The virtual gala was made possible through Matthew House Hospice’s Gala Committee volunteers and the generous support of community donors and partners.

“We are so wonderfully supported by this community, we are certainly very happy about that,” Pufek said.
