Tottenham Paint and Paper re-opens with new design

It was time for a change, so Tottenham Paint and Paper went all out to redesign both the exterior facade at its Queen St. store as well as the interior layout.

“We kept working through the whole process,” said store owner Sue Simon. “We only closed on Sunday and Thanksgiving Monday. Those were the only days we closed. We moved one half of the store at a time. We did this all within two weeks. I really wanted to make this my store. It also gives a nice face-lift for the community. It really wasn't functional the way it was.”

Sue took over the store around five years ago.

While the COVID-19 pandemic forced many businesses to close, people still needed to do home repairs, so Sue managed to keep the business open and served customers through several different ways while keeping the front door closed.

“People were calling in and placing their orders, giving a credit card number or E-transfer,” Sue explained. “We would get it ready for them and put it outside. That's how we have been doing it and we've had record-breaking sales during COVID. It was the silver lining for us.”

Many home related businesses actually had a surge in customers after the pandemic started. With so many people suddenly working at home and spending more time at the house, they had more of an opportunity to make home improvements.

The store held a grand re-opening on Saturday, November 14, to celebrate the new design.

Sue thanked her store manager, Christa Lacey, for all her hard work at the store.

Several customers, friends, and dignitaries showed up for the ceremonial ribbon cutting to re-open the store.
