Province-wide shutdown curtails most activities

The province-wide shutdown has severely curtailed many activities and fully closed other facilities in both the Town and across the province.

The shutdown is in effect until January 23, with no guarantee that it could not be extended past that date.

Restrictions include the number of people allowed at indoor events and social gatherings. Indoor events, for the most part, are not permitted except with members of the same household.

People living alone may combine with one other household.

For weddings and funerals, and some religious ceremonies, you can have up to ten people indoors.

Most retail businesses will not be allowed to have people in their store. However, curbside pickup and delivery can continue.

If you do need to visit a retail store for pickup, you should make an appointment and place an order before arriving.

Discount and big box retailers selling groceries will be limited to 25 per cent capacity for in store shopping.

Grocery stores and pharmacies can continue to operate at 50 per cent capacity for in-store shopping.

Restaurants, bars, and other food and drink establishments are prohibited from having an indoor dining area. They can continue to operate with take-out, drive-through, and delivery services.

When it comes to Town-operated facilities, there is almost a total shut-down in effect.

All Town of New Tecumseth recreation centres are closed and all bookings of fitness classes and facility rentals have been cancelled.

The Museum on the Boyne is closed and all outdoor playground facilities are off limits.

You can still enjoy open spaces, parks, trails, and walking paths. However, there are strict protocols in place and you must follow them to use the facilities.

Town libraries will remain open – but only for contactless curbside delivery and pick-up.

The outdoor rink at the Tottenham Community and Fitness centre will be open for leisure skating only.

No game play is allowed.

The ice pad will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with a maximum of ten people allowed on the ice at any time. Masks or face coverings will be required at all times and ice time is limited to 55 minutes per person.

The Town will possibly open man-made outdoor ice rinks at Doner Park in Alliston and at the Beeton Fairgrounds if weather permits.

Everyone is encouraged to continue with physical distancing and mask protocols during the current time to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
