Simcoe-Grey Member of Provincial Parliament, Jim Wilson, has been nominated for national recognition by the CF Get Loud Campaign.

He was nominated by Beeton Cystic Fibrosis advocates Beth and Madi Vanstone.

Mr. Wilson is a long-time advocate on behalf of Canadians living with cystic fibrosis who want access to the life-changing medications that are available.

There are drugs which have been approved in more than 20 other countries around the world, however in Canada, negotiations between the drug manufacturer and the Federal-Provincial alliance, which hammers out prices on behalf of provinces and patients, are stalled.

Mr. Wilson was caught by surprise when he learned of the nomination.

“This is an issue that transcends politics,” Mr. Wilson said of his advocacy. “It’s about the right of every Canadian to enjoy a happy, fruitful and productive life. Everyone deserves the right to breath.”

In nominating the MPP, Beth and Madi Vanstone said, “Jim has been walking alongside CF patients since 2012. He has continued to show himself to be a caring, compassionate man who has not been afraid to stand up for what he has believed is right despite politics.”

In their nomination, the Vanstones said Mr. Wilson is “understanding the need for our community to have access to CF modulators, Jim, Madi and I met with another local family also fighting for access to Orkambi (drug) and has supported that battle as well, by continuing to bring the issue up to the Minister of Health in Queen’s Park, giving a voice to CF families.”

Mr. Wilson responded by saying, “I want to thank the Vanstones for their kind thoughts. Their dedication and hard work strengthens my resolve to continue supporting the CF community.”
