Cornell acclaimed Chair of Warden’s Caucus

County of Simcoe Warden George Cornell has been acclaimed Chair the of Western Ontario Warden’s Caucus.

The WOWC is a not-for-profit organization representing 15 upper and single-tier municipalities in Southwestern Ontario. The WOWC aims to enhance the prosperity and overall wellbeing of rural and small urban communities across the region.

Caucus members work to influence federal and provincial legislation through advocacy, research, analysis, and education.

“I am honoured to have been acclaimed for the position of chair of the Western Ontario Warden’s Caucus to further initiatives that will benefit our group of 15 upper and single-tier municipalities,” Said Warden Cornell. “Throughout this pandemic, we have witnessed the strength of working together to tackle the biggest issues that we are facing.

“Collectively, we will represent the joint interests of Southwestern Ontario municipalities as we collaborate to build on these learnings and continue our great track record of success. I would like to thank all my fellow wardens and mayors who supported me, and to congratulate Dufferin County Warden, Darren White on returning as vice chair. Together the caucus will make progress in our recovery efforts, supporting our entire area through coordinated economic development efforts and rural broadband connectivity enhancements in collaboration with SWIFT.”

Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) is a non-profit municipally led broadband expansion project created to improve internet connectivity in under served communities and rural areas across Southwestern Ontario.
