Temporary patio program happening again this summer

March 26, 2021   ·   0 Comments

Dining establishments in New Tecumseth will again be allowed to establish or expand patio spaces this summer to take advantage of the warm weather and offer a safe outdoor dining area to their customers.

With restrictions currently in place for the number of people allowed indoors, restaurants can move at least some of their business outside.

This is the second year the Town is waiving municipal fees to participating restaurants to help alleviate the costs incurred during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Restaurants must obtain a permit from the Town to operate a patio.

Patios can operate in parking lots and adjacent premises on restaurant private property, as well as on municipal sidewalks located in the downtown areas of Alliston, Beeton, and Tottenham.

After obtaining a permit, temporary patios on private property can being operating as early as the last weekend of March. The curbside stream of the program allows temporary patios to operate from as early as April 15.

The program allows patios to stay open through to November 15.

For restaurants planning to open a patio, there are protocols in place that must be adhered to when submitting an application to open.

Interested restaurants must submit an application form that includes a property owner approval.

There must be a site-specific conceptual site plan drawing that shows the patio layout.

A Health Unit Certificate of Inspection is required, and an AGCO Liquor License, if required, must be current, along with a certificate of insurance.

For “bump-out” sidewalk structures and traffic barriers, if applicable, will require a Professional Engineers Certificate.

There must also be an Encroachment Agreement if applicable.

The program will allow at least some local restaurants to bring in more customers during the current restrictions.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate this summer.
