Football postponed for another season

April 2, 2021   ·   0 Comments

Don’t expect to see any real football games again this year.

Even teams in Green (Alert) health districts won’t be allowed to play the game.

Teams in the Ontario Provincial Football League are spread out around the province and are located in several different health districts. That alone stops most of the teams from even meeting up as they can’t cross health zones to compete.

Two Club, the Cambridge Lions and Guelph Jr. Gryphons have already announced they will not be operating at all this season.

The TNT Express are listed in the group of 12 teams that are currently in a Red Alert zone.

Red Zone teams can gather for training with a maximum of 25 participants on the field or ten if they are training indoors. However, actual game play will not be allowed.

Teams in the Green Zone will be limited. There are no teams currently listed as being in a Green zone, however if a region does go Green, only non-contact football will be allowed.

The OPFL does not explain how non-contact football would be carried out if that even takes place.

Southwest Ontario lists three teams currently in an Orange (Alert) Zone.

Yellow Zone teams are in the east end of the province including Kingston, as well as the North Bay Bulldogs who are the only Northern Ontario team in the League.

The TNT Express are currently taking registrations to see how many players they will have in each division, but are not yet accepting payments.

The Club is waiting to see how the situation plays out before seeing how they will proceed this year.

Executives are considering modified play or a flag football league depending on what happens over the next few weeks.

All football was cancelled last season due to the pandemic with some clubs offering limited training sessions.

For this season, the record books will again be blank pages as no games will likely be played at all and there will be no league competition.
